Sept. 2, 1961 - Nov. 28, 2023

A voice-over professional who also owned and operated his own electrical contracting business, Thomas Paul Darenberg died on Nov. 28 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue. The resident of Montauk and Lake Suzy, Fla., had been diagnosed with lung cancer over five years ago. He was 62.

He was born in Southampton on Sept. 2, 1961, to Robert F. Darenberg Sr. and the former Judith L. Stanley. His mother, also of Montauk, survives.

Growing up in the easternmost hamlet, Mr. Darenberg attended the Little Flower School and graduated from East Hampton High School in 1979 before going on to the Brown Broadcasting School in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He began his career working on the dock at Montauk’s Deep Sea Club. As an electrician, he worked first for Daniel Boerem and Son, then established his own company, T. Paul Darenberg Electrical. He was a Boy Scout troop leader for many years.

After he retired in 2018, Mr. Darenberg began splitting his time between Montauk and Lake Suzy, where, his family said, he made many friends and was “living his best life.” He would travel with his beloved Golden Retriever, Spike, who died in April.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Darenberg leaves two children, Erika Gullien of East Northport and Harrison Darenberg of Glens Falls, N.Y. Five siblings survive as well. They are Robert Darenberg Jr. of Fort Pierce, Fla., Michael Darenberg of Essex, Md., Mary Pupo of Amagansett, and Mindy Molter and James Chet Darenberg, both of East Hampton. He also leaves 13 nieces and nephews, two great-nieces, and one great-nephew.

The Rev. Liam McDonald officiated at a graveside service on Dec. 2 at Fort Hill Cemetery. The family has suggested memorial donations to East End Hospice, online at eeh.org.
