A funeral service for Janet Schellinger Halliday of Sag Harbor will take place today at 11 a.m. at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton. Burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Amagansett will follow. She died on Feb. 18 at the Kanas Center for Hospice Care in Quiogue at the age of 99. An obituary will appear in a future issue.
Oscar M. Lopez of Montauk died of a heart attack on May 10 at Stony Brook University Hospital. He was 77. He is survived by his wife, Mirta Lopez, and daughter, Carolina Swanson of Springs, and by two grandchildren. An obituary will appear in a future issue.
Memorial Day observances in East Hampton and throughout the town begin on Sunday, when veterans will visit cemeteries from Wainscott to Montauk and continue with a "lost at sea" ceremony at Main Beach and a parade downtown.
The lunch options in Wainscott got more interesting this week with the opening of the SoFo Sandwich Co. at the long-empty spot that was previously home to Breadzilla, popular for its baked goods and takeout breakfast and lunch menu. The new shop is by Peter Ambrose, a catering chef whose food many will be familiar with from Love Bites, a fund-raiser for Katy’s Courage, among others.
