An old elm tree thought to be lost after an intense storm roared through East Hampton two weeks ago is still standing thanks to the efforts of the village Highway Department and Jackson Dodds & Co., a tree care business.
Mary Lavelle, a former domestic worker born in Ireland, died on Sunday in Connecticut. She was 102 and had lived in Springs and then East Hampton for many years.
In local waters there has been a decrease of kelp, much of which was typically found from the east side of Gardiner’s Island all the way to Montauk. A new project looks to change this.
