Lacking the kind of synergy between restaurants and retail that might draw more off-season shoppers, Amagansett's Main Street on a winter weekday can feel in need of a bit of revival. That will all change when the high season arrives, but what has people talking now is the news last month of the sale of the Main Street Tavern building and how a restaurant in that spot could boost morale on Main Street.

Suffolk D.A. Pays a Visit

At least one of the four people sentenced in the March 2022 thefts at the luxury Balenciaga store in East Hampton Village committed the daytime heist while wearing a GPS ankle-monitor as part of a sentencing in similar previous crimes, Raymond A. Tierney, the Suffolk County district attorney, said on Monday night at a meet-and-greet in Amagansett hosted by the East Hampton Town Republican Committee.

State Lawmakers Not Ready to Support Hither Woods Sewage Plant

When it comes to East Hampton Town's proposal to swap land it owns elsewhere for Hither Woods parkland in order to build a wastewater treatment plant, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. and State Senator Anthony Palumbo will “take no action regarding sponsorship of park alienation legislation” until the town has undertaken a full state environmental quality review act analysis, Mr. Thiele wrote this week.
