A Southampton man who had been charged with drunken driving Monday night hit a Sag Harbor Village police officer in the face while in custody, according to village police.

An intoxicated 49-year-old Springs man refused to leave Stop and Shop on April 17 at about noon. Police escorted him out of the store and his brother picked him up.

Jerry Larsen, a former East Hampton Village police chief, has announced his intention to run for mayor of the village in 2020.

Word has come of the death of Steven Christopher Murphy, who lived in East Hampton from 1987 to 2003, in a hiking accident in Wailuku, Hawaii.
