Taxpayers in at least three school districts in East Hampton Town — Amagansett, Springs, and East Hampton — could be faced with approving over-the-tax-cap spending plans in May for the 2024-25 school year.

As the downtown Montauk portion of the long-awaited Fire Island to Montauk Point beach reformulation project nears conclusion, students in the hamlet are both learning about the science behind the project and, through the medium of video, advocating for protection of their home.

East Hampton Town’s 2024 draft capital plan — a wish list of 85 construction, upgrade, or acquisition initiatives with an estimated total cost of just over $15 million, much of it allocated to the Highway, Police, and Parks and Building Maintenance Departments — was presented to the town board on Tuesday.

A beach and dune remediation project at Ditch Plain in Montauk, where a critical dune system was lost to winter storms, will cost an estimated $3 million to $5 million.
