Susan L. Solomon, Stem Cell C.E.O.

Over the course of 17 years, Susan Lynn Solomon of Amagansett and New York City, a founder and longtime chief executive officer of the New York Stem Cell Foundation, raised more than $400 million to advance the field of stem cell research. Ms. Solomon, who had had only recently stepped down as the organization’s C.E.O., died last Thursday, at home in Amagansett, five years after she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. She was 71.

Lucas Matthiessen

Lucas Conrad Matthiessen, 69, an editor and writer who also ran a network of clinics for drug and alcohol abusers, died on Aug. 20 at a hospice near his home on City Island in the Bronx. The cause of death was metastatic cancer, said his wife, Claire de Brunner.

For Dominic Annacone

A service for Dominic Annacone, an educator who served as principal of Pierson High School and superintendent of the Sag Harbor School District, interim superintendent of the Springs School District, and superintendent of the Wainscott School District, will be held at the Yardley and Pino Funeral Home in East Hampton on on Wednesday at 11 a.m., followed by interment at Cedar Lawn Cemetery in East Hampton at 1 p.m.

On the Water: Rest for the Weary

There are plenty of bluefish by Jessup’s Neck, porgy fishing is solid in many areas, including the east side of Gardiner’s Island. Sea bass too, are mixed in the catch in the deeper water. Farther offshore, tuna — bigeye, bluefin, and yellowfin — remain plentiful, and at the Cartwright grounds south of Montauk, as well as the area near the Block Island windmills, fluke fishing has been good of late.

It’s Homecoming Weekend in Bonac

Homecoming weekend here begins Friday with East Hampton High’s field hockey team facing off against Sayville on the high school’s turf field at 4:30 p.m. Saturday's games and festivities include Hall of Fame inductions, soccer and volleyball matches, cross country meets, a fall festival in the afternoon, and a football game under the lights.

Close Call for Boater in Fire by Cedar Point

A 17-foot Boston Whaler caught fire just off the Cedar Island lighthouse by Cedar Point at around 11 a.m. on Sunday, causing its sole occupant, Larry Kane of East Hampton, to dive off approximately 150 feet from the shore. Seconds after he jumped off, he said, the boat was engulfed in flames.
