With the beginning of Hanukkah on Wednesday night, local houses of worship have public menorah lightings planned over the course of the next several days.

The Jewish Center of the Hamptons is holding a pop-up Hanukkah gathering at several locations here, the first of which took place at Herrick Park on Wednesday. On Thursday at 5 p.m., the festivities continue with another menorah lighting at Guild Hall. Friday's takes place with a shabbat ceremony at Main Beach at 6, and Saturday's is at 4:30 at the Clubhouse in Wainscott.

The venue for Sunday's menorah lighting is Nick and Toni's restaurant at 5, and on Monday it will be BookHampton at the same time. The celebration wraps up Wednesday at Amagansett Wine & Spirits at 5 p.m. Registration is on the Jewish Center's website.

Chabad of the Hamptons will hold a Light Up Montauk celebration Thursday at 4:15 p.m. at the downtown Montauk green, where latkes, doughnuts, and hot drinks will be served. On Tuesday at 4, Chabad of the Hamptons will host a similar get-together in Amagansett at the flagpole near the corner of Main Street and Atlantic Avenue.

Chabad's annual Menorahcade, with car-top menorahs available for all at 17 Woods Lane, will happen on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m.

Temple Adas Israel of Sag Harbor held a menorah lighting celebration on Long Wharf earlier this week.

Another Iconic House at Risk of Demolition

Julian and Barbara Neski’s 1964 Chalif House on Terbell Lane in East Hampton has recently come on the market for $11 million-plus. The house is historically important, but given the times, the value of a one-acre plot, and its location in the village’s estate section, it’s likely to be torn down.
