Unitarian Universalist Congregation Awards 'High-Impact' Grants

Mon, 07/10/2023 - 14:34

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork, located in Bridgehampton, announced Friday that it has granted eight organizations $5,000 each, a total of $40,000 donated through its High Impact Community Outreach program.

David Holstein, a member of the congregation’s Proposal Assessment Committee, which is in charge of evaluating applications, explained that its focus in 2023 “shifted to reflect the uncertain economic environment and the impact of the sharp rise in inflation in food and housing.” The goal is to “be a resource for East Enders dealing with hardships,” he said.

Two food pantries, Heart of the Hamptons, in Southampton, and the Springs Food Pantry, received aid. In addition, the Southampton Day Care Center and Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center were offered grants.

Also receiving grants were Hope and Resilience LI, an organization that supports domestic and sexual abuse victims, and Organizacion Latino-Americana of Eastern Long Island. The congregation also supported Maureen’s Haven, a homeless shelter program based in Riverhead, and the Riverhead Shelter Volunteer Program, an animal shelter.
