Charitable Happenings This Weekend

In Sag Harbor and Amagansett this weekend, a bake sale and a spaghetti dinner, respectively, will raise money for charitable endeavors.

Matriark, at 133 Main Street in Sag Harbor, will hold a bake sale to benefit survivors of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. The Sag Harbor Elementary School is co-sponsoring the sale, and Sylvester & Co. is providing coffee. Donations will go to Doctors Without Borders and the Center for Disaster Philanthropy.

East Hampton Rotary and its Interact Club will host a spaghetti and meatball dinner on Sunday from 3:30 to 7 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Amagansett. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for children. Dinners can also be donated to Meals on Wheels. The hall is at the northeast corner of Montauk Highway and Abraham's Path.

Call ‘Flesh Eating’ Alarmist

The Vibrio vulnificus “flesh eating” bacterium “is not unusual in warm saltwater or brackish environments and does not necessarily indicate pollution or a widespread public health emergency,” the Southampton Town Trustees said in an advisory issued following a social media post that went viral.
