Talking About Alpha-Gal

Tue, 06/14/2022 - 15:51

The Hampton Library in Bridgehampton will host an informative Zoom presentation on Thursday at noon by Dr. Erin E. McGintee, an allergist, about the alpha-gal meat allergy, which is caused by a bite from an infected lone star tick.

Dr. McGintee is a member of the Medical Advisory Panel of Stony Brook Southampton Hospital’s Regional Tick-Borne Disease Resource Center as well as a practicing physician with ENT and Allergy Associates in Southampton. She has “treated over 500 East End residents for this allergy and she is considered the regional expert in the field,” the library said in an announcement.

Advance registration is requested. More information is available by phone at 631-537-0015 or via the online event calendar at hamptonlibary.org. The program is free and sponsored by the East End Library Programmers Consortium.

The board determined that the project will have little environmental impact, and approved $535,720.60 for the work, which will come out of the village's general fund.
