Be on the lookout for detours — Montauk Highway in Wainscott will be closed in both directions between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. this week as construction along the South Fork Wind farm's onshore cable route progresses.

According to an announcement from South Fork Wind, crews will begin "trenching and installing conduit" across Montauk Highway starting Tuesday (tonight), in addition to continued "test pitting" to confirm the location of existing utilities. Montauk Highway will be closed overnight from Wainscott Stone Road on the east end of the hamlet to Town Line Road on the west, with traffic to be diverted down Wainscott Stone Road to Wainscott Main Street and back up Town Line Road.

Drivers should also be prepared for alternating lane closures on Wainscott Northwest Road, Wainscott Stone Road, and Wainscott Main Street, also for the digging of trenches and installation of conduits, as well as the placement of a new manhole at the north end of Beach Lane.

The company said in its weekly update that people should be prepared for delays. "Please coordinate with flaggers and [the] field team for when you need to come and go," the announcement notes.

Drivers and residents can track the locations and progress of wind farm work via this online map maintained by South Fork Wind. They can also call 631-887-5470 or send an email to [email protected] for more information.
