For teens and adults ages 13 to 21 who are interested in advocating for their peers on important youth issues, here's an opportunity to do so: The New York State Governor's Youth Council is seeking applicants for the 2022 program. Sixty-two candidates will be chosen, one from each county in the state.

The program promises "to engage youth in state government and create a platform for their voices to be heard by policymakers," according to a press release.

Representatives will be chosen for their outstanding character, civic engagement, academics, and leadership skills. They will take part in discussions on diversity, equity, and inclusion; substance abuse; mental health; preventing gender-based bias and violence; relationships with law enforcement, and other topics.

Applications are due Monday, April 4. The online form to fill out can be found at nysylc.secure-platform.com/a.
