In the primary race for the Democratic nomination for the First Congressional District seat, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr. has endorsed Bridget Fleming, one of two Suffolk County legislators in the running.

It is Ms. Fleming's second bid for Congress; she was unsuccessful in last year's primary. The seat is held by Lee Zeldin, who is campaigning to be the Republican nominee for New York governor in 2022. Kara Hahn, a county legislator who represents Setauket, Stony Brook, Centereach, and Port Jefferson, is one of Ms. Fleming's primary opponents.

In a statement yesterday, Mr. Thiele said Ms. Fleming "has continually delivered for the people of her legislative district and Suffolk County" on issues like water quality and cost-of-living affordability. "I know she will take her skills to Washington and continue to deliver for the people of Suffolk County."

Ms. Fleming said on Twitter yesterday that she was "incredibly honored to earn the support of Assemblyman Thiele."

The Sweet Smell of Nostalgia at Sagaponack General

Stepping into the new Sagaponack General Store, which reopened yesterday after being closed since 2020, is a sweet experience, and not just because there’s a soft-serve ice cream station on the left and what promises to be the biggest penny candy selection on the South Fork on your right, but because it’s like seeing an old friend who, after some struggle, made it big. Really, really big.
