Among his many awards, Charlie Stern, left, the salutatorian of the class of 2026, was named a News 12 scholar-athlete. Livs Kuplins, also a senior, was selected as a Suffolk Zone Award winner. Kathy Masterson, the district athletic director, presented their awards at a school board meeting Tuesday.

East Hampton recognized its Suffolk Zone Award winners and News 12 Scholar-Athlete at a school board meeting Tuesday.

The Suffolk Zone Award winners are the top physical education and health student-athletes in the district, as selected by their teachers. Sadie Weil and Matthew Franco are the fifth-grade winners. Maria Giraldo Munoz and William Babinski are the eighth-grade winners. The 12th-grade winners are Hailey Welsch and Livs Kuplins.

“In my opinion, it’s one of the top awards we give each year,” said Kathy Masterson, the district’s athletic director.

Charlie Stern, the salutatorian of the class of 2026, was chosen as a News 12 Scholar-Athlete, an honor given to just 30 students on Long Island. Among his achievements, he was recognized as a defensive force on the football field and for his idea to eliminate all single-use plastics at East Hampton High School.

Earlier this year, Mr. Stern was selected as a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete. Masterson called the awards ceremony one of the highlights of her career.

“Charlie Stern is every athletic director’s dream,” Ms. Masterson said. “Not only is he an amazing athlete, but he is an even more amazing student. I am so proud to have been able to spend four years with him and watch him grow into the incredible young man that he has become. I can’t wait to see what his future holds.”
