The Police Were Watching

Thu, 05/23/2019 - 15:20

A Montauk man was charged with drunken driving in the hamlet on May 13 after East Hampton Town police saw him speeding. David Tuma was driving a 2011 Dodge south on Flamingo Avenue, near Edgemere Street, when police reportedly clocked him at 59 miles per hour, almost 20 m.p.h. over the speed limit. He performed poorly on all field sobriety tests, they said, and was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated.

East Hampton Town Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance the next day.

Police were watching at about 2:10 a.m. Saturday as Juan C. Suarezrealpe, 26, driving a 2010 GMC Sierra, blew through a stop sign on Fort Pond Boulevard in Springs, turned onto Springs-Fireplace Road, and swerved over the double yellow line. He appeared intoxicated, officers said, and failed all the roadside tests. He too was charged with misdemeanor D.W.I.

Justice Lisa R. Rana released him on his own recognizance later that morning.
