In collaboration with Hamptons JazzFest, The Church in Sag Harbor will host the Jane Ira Bloom Quartet for an evening of richly textured jazz on Friday at 6 p.m. Called an “elite soprano saxophonist” by JazzTimes, Ms. Bloom, whose career spans almost 40 years, is known as a pioneer of spatial sound and lyrical improvisation.

A Guggenheim Fellow and recipient of the Charlie Parker Jazz Innovation Award, Ms. Bloom was named a Jazz Master by the National Endowment for the Arts. She has spent her career redefining what is possible on the soprano saxophone, both technically and expressively.

Her most recent quartet includes Mark Elias, bass; Matt Wilson, drums, and Dawn Clement, piano. Known for his melodic phrasing and sensitivity to texture, Mr. Elias has collaborated with Ms. Bloom and other jazz luminaries for years.

Mr. Wilson is credited with a dynamic touch and the ability to shape the emotional arc of a performance.

Of Ms. Clement, Julian Priester, a jazz trombonist, has said, “In all this world of jazz, there are very few individual voices, no matter what the instrument, but Dawn has come up with a voice that’s unique.”

Tickets are $30, $25 for members, $15 for ages 8 to 18.

A previously announced program, The Power of Poetry, has been canceled.

This article has been changed from its print version because the poetry program was canceled after the arts section went to press.
