“Echoes and Nostalgia,” an exhibition of works from the collection of Lana Jokel, a renowned documentary filmmaker and Bridgehampton resident, opens Thursday at the Bridgehampton Museum and will continue through Sept. 21. A reception will take place Thursda from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Born in Shanghai, raised in Brazil, Ms. Jokel came to this country for her senior year in secondary school and moved to New York City in her mid-20s. Her life took a propitious turn when one night at Max’s Kansas City she was introduced to D.A. Pennebaker, the documentary filmmaker.

After working with Pennebaker, she went on to a career as a documentary filmmaker herself, with a particular focus on contemporary artists. In June 2024, her film archive was acquired by the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

Over the years Ms. Jokel accrued a unique collection of artworks by such
friends as John Chamberlain, Jasper Johns, Roy Lichtenstein, Claes Oldenburg, Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, and Sven Lukin, among many others.

A more detailed look at the exhibition will appear in next week’s paper.
