“Hairy Situation,” a performance by Alok, an acclaimed poet, comedian, public speaker, and actor, will bring “unfiltered comedy” to Guild Hall on Saturday at 8 p.m.

In their new standup show, Alok is tangled in all kinds of hairy situations: being mistaken for a mega-famous Brazilian D.J., botching TikTok makeup tutorials, and signing up for an appointment at the European Wax Center.

Alok has performed in over 40 countries, with sold-out shows at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Netflix Is a Joke Festival. Their first comedy special, “Biology!”, was executive-produced by Christopher Guest, and they are the subject of a short documentary, executive-produced by Jodie Foster and directed by Alex Hedison, which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival in 2024.

Their literary works include “Beyond the Gender Binary” and two volumes of poetry, “Femme in Public” and “Your Wound/My Garden.” Alok’s television and film credits include “The Trans List” and “Random Acts of Flyness” for HBO, and “Hannah Gadsby’s Gender Agenda” and “Absolute Dominion,” a science fiction actioan film, both for Netflix.

Alok has also designed gender-neutral fashion collections, known for their color and celebration of skirts and dresses as gender-neutral, and modeled for several fashion brands during New York Fashion Week.

Of Alok, Anthony Madonna, Guild Hall’s theater director and curator of performing arts, said, “It’s comedy, but it’s really grounded in knowledge and experience, and it’s super-witty. They bring to light what’s happening to the trans community right now, but they do it through comedy and laughter.”

Tickets are $45 to $75, $40 to $67.50 for members.

Sunday’s program at Guild Hall, “Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra With Wynton Marsalis,” is sold out.
