Up next from The Met: Live in HD, at Sag Harbor's Bay Street Theater, is a new production of Bizet's "Carmen," which will be simulcast on Saturday at 12:55 p.m.

Carrie Cracknell, an English director making her Met debut, has set the action in the present to illuminate issues especially relevant today -- gendered violence, abusive labor structures, and the longing to break through societal boundaries.

Aigul Akhmetshina, a mezzo-soprano, sings the title role, alongside Piotr Beczala, a tenor, as Carmen’s lover, Don Jose. Angel Blue, a soprano, is Micaela, and Kyle Ketelsen, a bass-baritone, sings Escamillo. Daniele Rustioni conducts.

Tickets are $35.

With only a few good seats left for Mike Birbiglia's summer standup comedy shows, Bay Street has announced two new performances. In addition to the previous dates -- July 26 at 7 p.m. and July 27 at 6 p.m. -- his newest show, "Please Stop the Ride," will also be presented on July 25 at 6 p.m. and July  28 at 2 p.m. The comedian's Bay Street appearances typically sell out.
