History Captured by Harry Benson in Southampton

Mon, 05/01/2023 - 16:33
Harry Benson's 1964 photograph "Beatles With Pepsis" is part of a new exhibition coming to the Southampton Arts Center.

During more than seven decades, the Scottish-born photographer Harry Benson has photographed everything from fashion icons, rock stars, and athletes to civil rights figures, war zones, and every U.S. president since Dwight D. Eisenhower. He was under contract to Life magazine for 30 years; his work has also appeared in other major magazines here and abroad.

"A Moment in Time: Images by Harry Benson," an exhibition organized by Sally Martin Katz, curatorial assistant of photography at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, will open on Saturday at the Southampton Arts Center and remain on view through July 15.

“It is a challenge to choose photographs from my 75-year career, which hopefully will surprise, delight, and engage the viewer," said Mr. Benson. "It is a challenge I accept.”

Really, really big.
