Art Show Heralds Fairs to Come

Tue, 02/25/2020 - 11:27

The Art Dealers Association of America will have an early jump on next week’s Armory Show and satellite fairs when it opens The Art Show today at the Park Avenue Armory. This year, two galleries are featuring South Fork artists in solo shows at their booths. Others, such as Robert Gober and Richard Serra, will be sprinkled about in group presentations.

At Miles McEnery Gallery, April Gornik’s works on paper will highlight her current show of recent paintings at its 525 West 22nd Street location. The fair closes on Sunday, but the North Haven artist’s paintings will remain on view in the gallery through March 28.

For those who have missed Jane Wilson’s ethereal takes on East End atmosphere, the DC Moore booth will be a treat. The New York City gallery plans to exhibit large-scale paintings from the 1980s and 1990s that have not been seen publicly in decades. Wilson, who died in 2015, came to Water Mill in 1960 and found perfect conditions in her attic studio near Mecox Bay for documenting the changes in the sea and sky she witnessed here. The booth will include paintings and watercolors.

Tickets to the fair are $25 and benefit the Henry Street Settlement. The fair is open every day through Sunday beginning at noon, closing today and tomorrow at 8 p.m., Saturday at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 5 p.m.
