The long-awaited ribbon-cutting ceremony for the Montauk Playhouse aquatic and cultural centers is planned for Friday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m.

“After years of planning, partnership, and perseverance,” Jennifer Carney Iacono, president of the Montauk Playhouse Community Center Foundation, said, the vision for the facility “is finally coming to life.”

“This milestone is a tribute to the unwavering support of our community — every volunteer, donor, neighbor, and friend who helped bring this dream to fruition. We are deeply grateful for the generosity shown over the years and for our strong public-private partnership with the Town of East Hampton, which has made it possible to realize this essential project to complete the historic Montauk Playhouse for our community.”

According to an announcement from the foundation, the Aug. 15 ceremony will honor those who put their time and resources into the project and offer a preview of the new spaces, including a four-lane lap pool and a separate therapy pool on the first floor and a multi-use cultural center on the second.

In a statement, East Hampton Town Supervisor Kathee Burke-Gonzalez called the facility “a gathering place for all, rooted in community, and shaped by shared effort.”

“This moment belongs to Montauk,” she said.

The foundation’s donation campaign will remain open as construction finishes up, and will support furnishing the second floor of the center with lighting and staging equipment.

Those interested in attending the ribbon-cutting ceremony are asked to R.S.V.P. at montaukplayhouse.org.
