Julian Koray: Blazing — and Skiing — His Own Trail

By Tatiana Basch

Whether he's racing down a mountain or pushing through a tough game, he knows how to stay in motion. Julian Koray is heading into his junior year of high school at the Berkeley Carroll School in Brooklyn with an open mind.

Skiing has become a cherished tradition for Julian, who enjoys spending time on the slopes with his family. He skis in the northeast on a mountain called Butternut; however, his favorite spots are Telluride and Jackson Hole. Inspired by his passion for the sport, Koray has even chosen to pursue an internship with his favorite ski company, Faction. Apart from sports, Julian values the pleasant, meaningful moments — especially fishing trips with his dad, which allows for an additional way to connect.

His father is one of his biggest supporters, encouraging him to persevere and accomplish what he sets his mind to.

Julian does not want to be defined by society’s construct of success, saying he doesn't want to “just follow what everyone else has as their definition of success. I want to create my own, but more so, what I deem as a success [is] fulfilling all my goals and passions.”
