Bonac boys and girls took to the track at Suffolk Community College in Brentwood on Saturday, getting ahead of Sunday’s storm and preparing for the Small School Championship meet this coming weekend, with both teams piling up personal records as high as the snow totals.

The boys participated in the Eli Acosta Last Chance Invitational in the morning, their final meet before the county championships. The underclassmen had some standout performances. Jasper Samuelson set a sophomore school record in the 1,600 meters, with a time of 4:36.2, finishing second and taking down Ryan Fowkes’s record of 4:37.8, set back in 2017. (Coincidentally, Fowkes, a 2019 graduate, ran a 4:00.4 mile at the Terrier Classic at Boston University Saturday. Fowkes broke four minutes for the first time on Aug. 28, 2025, with a 3:55.49 at the Monmouth Mile in New Jersey.) Watts Comly-Bolick, another East Hampton sophomore, also had a strong 1,600-meter run, finishing in 4:53.7.

In the 1,000 meters, Max Oransky (3:02) and Lincoln Fischer (3:05), both freshmen, and Andrew Perez (3:07), a junior, all set new personal records.

Marcus Oransky, a junior, took second place in the 55-meter high hurdles with a 9.27 before coming back to run a personal record of 1:37.8 in the 600 meters. Eduardo Calle, a senior, hit 20 feet in the long jump, which was good for second place over all.

This week, the boys are practicing for Small Schools on Sunday. Fourteen to 16 of the Bonackers are expected to qualify for that meet, but they won’t likely get any trackwork in beforehand. “With the brutal weather conditions and probably no access to the track, we will have to become creative with the treadmill, weight room, and hallway workouts,” Kevin Barry, their coach, said.

The girls competed in the Zeitler Coaches Classic on Saturday, also at Brentwood. It was also the last opportunity for them to improve their times ahead of the Small School Championship, and several of the girls rose to the occasion.

Amy Fleming hit 22 feet, 10.5 inches in the shot-put, which was a new personal record.

Sierra Stumpf ran a 9.61 in the 55-meter high hurdles, a personal record for her as well.

In the 1,000 meters, Danette Gonzalez-Alcala ran a personal record time of 3:30.72. Bennett Greene (8:24.89, 10th place) and Olivia Stiglitz (10:12.31) both recorded personal bests in the 1,500-meter racewalk.

Thursday night, there is to be a seed meeting to determine which girls qualify for their Small School Championship on Saturday.
