Felony Forgery Charges

An East Hampton man faces three felony charges after allegedly producing forged documents to a town police officer in Montauk.

At around 12:30 a.m. on Saturday, according to the complaint, an officer stopped Jose Francisco Mejia Pozadas, 30, outside Anthony’s Pancake House and requested identification to issue him a “quality of life” town ordinance summons.

The man reportedly produced a United States of America Permanent Resident card and a Social Security card, both of which the officer determined to be forged. He was placed under arrest, charged with two counts of possession of a forged instrument in the second degree, and transported to town police headquarters in Wainscott for processing.

A search of his belongings at headquarters uncovered two clear plastic bags in his wallet, containing a white powdery substance which later tested positive for the presence of cocaine, leading to an additional felony charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

Mr. Pozadas appeared before Town Justice David Filer later that morning, who released him on his own recognizance with an order to return to court on Aug. 19.
