A cyclist was injured on the night of July 1 in a hit-and-run collision at the intersection of Flamingo Avenue and Manor Road in Montauk.
Bjarne Kveim Lie of Norway, 55, told town police he was riding his bicycle north on Flamingo Avenue when he was rear-ended by a “small-to-medium-sized black S.U.V.,” which then left the scene. He added that the vehicle might have damage to its passenger side, including a broken rearview mirror. The vehicle was not located during a search of the area.
Mr. Lie was thrown off his bicycle in the collision and reportedly sustained severe facial lacerations. He was transported by ambulance to Stony Brook Hospital’s East Hampton Emergency Building for treatment.
Another cyclist was injured in a collision with a Ford sedan in Amagansett late Friday morning. Jose S. Rodriguez of East Hampton, 59, who was driving the Ford, told police he had turned off Montauk Highway into the parking lot of the East Hampton Walk-In Care Center, and had not seen that there was a cyclist behind him.
The cyclist, Steven Aaron Cohen of Pikesville, Md., 67, stated that he was eastbound on the highway when he saw the Toyota turn in front of him, but that he did not have enough time to react. The bike struck the back of the vehicle and Mr. Cohen fell off. He complained of elbow pain and was taken by ambulance to the Emergency Building.
