East Hampton

With shotgun hunting season underway since earlier this month came several reports of hunting around Stephen Hand’s Path, Route 114, Green Hollow Road, and Goodfriend Drive. Police found none of the concerns credible.

An elderly East Hampton man may have fallen victim to a fraud scheme last week. On Jan. 20, he told police that while shopping online he’d been directed to speak to someone “with the fraud department of the Federal Trade Commission.” That person was able to convince him to disclose his banking institutions (though not his account numbers) and driver’s license number.

East Hampton Village

An East Hampton Library employee told police on Jan. 20 that an elderly man who has a history of “tying women’s undergarments onto a bicycle at the library” had done it again. Police issued the man a citation for trespassing.

After a local man called on Sunday to report that his Honda was missing, police informed him that it had been repossessed.

Montauk

Following a verbal altercation Friday afternoon between a Dime Bank employee and a customer, the employee summoned police. The angry customer told officers that the bank had closed his account without notifying him, but was told in return that he was no longer welcome at the Carl Fisher Plaza location and would be arrested if he showed up again anywhere on the property, including the A.T.M. vestibule.

Sag Harbor

Several prescription medication bottles left on a bench outside the Leallo clothing store on Main Street were removed by police last week, after a store employee reported that the bottles had been there for several days.

Men loading a van with tarps from a Hillside Drive construction site prompted a call to police Friday night. Police could not find the van in question.

Firefighters doused a fire in a metal barrel on Fordham Street on Sunday night.

On Monday morning, an unidentified caller reported being chased by a large brown dog, not for the first time.

Springs

Springs firefighters were called to the scene of a car fire Saturday night on Fireplace Road, after the driver reported smoke coming from under the hood. After extinguishing the flames they were able to push the car out of the roadway, and it was later towed away.

Eye a Public Safety Center in Montauk

East Hampton Town will acquire a parcel in Montauk’s downtown on which a multi-department public safety center housing the town’s police, Marine Patrol, Code Enforcement, and East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue operations is planned, it was announced this week.
