Five people were injured on the afternoon of July 28, with three taken to the hospital, after two cars collided on Old Stone Highway in Amagansett.
According to reports, the driver of a Toyota sedan waiting to make a left turn onto Town Lane from Old Stone Highway was hit head-on by a driver police allege disregarded a stop sign at the end of Town Lane.
Digna Mercedes Brito Quezada, 58, of Hampton Bays, told police she did stop at the sign, but that Nikoloz Pruidze of Brooklyn, 40, was traveling at a high rate of speed when the two collided.
However, reports indicate that Mr. Pruidze’s recollection of events — that Ms. Brito Quezada did not stop and a collision was unavoidable — appeared more likely.
Both drivers complained of general body pain and ambulances were called to take them to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. A passenger in the back seat of Ms. Brito Quezada’s car, Luisa Suarez-Pesantez, 36, was also taken to the hospital for head pain. Other passengers in that car, front and rear, declined medical attention but were noted as injured in police reports.
Both cars were badly damaged and were towed away. Neither driver has been charged.
