She’d just arrived home when the garage door suddenly closed on its own, a Meeting House Lane resident reported Friday night, adding that she’d also heard noises “consistent with footsteps” outside the house. An officer who conducted a thorough search inside and out found no signs of forced entry or unauthorized occupants, and the woman confirmed that nothing appeared to be missing or out of place.

A neighbor on a scooter had followed his daughter down the street, blowing an airhorn at her, a Pheasant Woods Lane man reported on the night of Aug. 30, adding that the neighbor had previously “broadcast” his family’s last name over a loudspeaker “on multiple occasions.” Police spoke with the neighbor, who said he “did not want to talk on the phone” before hanging up. They met with him the next day to inform him he could be arrested for harassment if those actions continued, and he stated that he “understood and would stop.” Police did not release the report, with some redactions, until this week.

There was a woman stuck on a roof on Hampton Street, a caller told police on the afternoon of Sept. 16, and an officer arrived to observe her “clinging to the ridge of the roof.” He called the Fire Department, which brought an extension ladder, which the woman used to climb safely down. She lives on the second floor, she explained, and had locked herself out and been trying to find an unlocked window to get back in. The officer removed an air-conditioning unit from a first-floor window, climbed inside, and forced open a door to the stairwell connecting the floors to regain access to the apartment.
The next night, police were called to Murf’s Tavern to remove a village resident who had previously been told he “was “not welcome in the establishment for the foreseeable future.” The man, who appeared intoxicated, ignored multiple requests to step outside but was finally led onto the sidewalk, where he grabbed the officer’s wrist “in an aggressive manner” and physically resisted multiple attempts to place him under arrest. He was eventually handcuffed and taken back to headquarters, where police found a small bag containing a while powdery substance in his wallet, which later tested positive for cocaine. He was charged with multiple misdemeanors and violations, and is scheduled for arraignment in Sag Justice Court next month.
Someone claiming to be the minister of the Old Whalers Church has been emailing the congregation from a Gmail address, the church secretary told police on Sept. 17. Members were receiving personalized emails with their names written in the body of the message, she said, speculating that the church’s computer may have been hacked. She has emailed church members to inform them of the situation, she said, but requested that police document the incident.

“I’ve been good for a year and haven’t come back, and I just want to use the gym,” a woman told officers who had been called to the Sag Harbor Gym. The woman was banned from the facility in November 2024, a staff member explained, but she’d presented her mother’s ID card in an effort to get in. She threatened to sue the company after again being told not to return, and the gym requested documentation of the incident.
