Thu, 08/28/2025 - 11:43

A 15-year-old bike rider was injured on Aug. 19 after colliding with a Chevrolet pickup truck by the side of Montauk Highway in East Hampton.

The truck driver, Ricardo Flores Brenes of Hampton Bays, 51, told police he was leaving the driveway of Buckley’s Garden Center when the boy rode into his truck, causing minor damage to the wheel well. The boy said he’d been riding on the shoulder and did not notice the truck  pulling out. After complaining of pain in his head, leg, and groin, he was taken by Amagansett E.M.S. to the Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Building for treatment. His bicycle was undamaged.

The week’s only other road accident involving an injury happened in Springs on Saturday afternoon, where a  Hyundai sedan struck a Ford pickup truck.

Mackenzie Myah Paige of Waddell, Ariz., 24, was northbound in the Hyundai on Springs-Fireplace Road when, she told town police, she realized she’d missed her turn. She attempted a U-turn in front of the oncoming truck, driven by Caroline DiSunno of East Hampton, 20, who told officers she was unable to stop.

The front end of the Hyundai was damaged in the impact, and was towed by Hamptons Transportation to Fireplace Auto Collision. Ms. DiSunno complained of neck pain but refused medical attention.
