Amagansett

Shortly after midnight Saturday, staff at the Stephen Talkhouse heard noises from above and discovered a man on the roof, trying to gain access to the establishment. Questioned by police, the man, who gave a Connecticut address, said he'd "just wanted to see what his friends were doing." He was banned from the property at the request of a manager.

East Hampton

A Stratton Square homeowner called police on the evening of Aug. 6 to say that an uninvited guest had stopped by his house multiple times, requesting a dollar to "purchase a beverage." That was okay, he said, until earlier that night he heard noises in the house and found the man inside. He did not want to press charges, he said, but did want the intruder warned to stay away. Police found the man walking on Newtown Lane, and he agreed not to return.

Earlier that day, an Oak Hill Lane woman requested that her house cleaner be banned from her property, explaining that earlier that week she'd seen her "dragging a large black tarp" out to her car while clearing out garbage from the shed, and later noticed that a red walker, a shovel, a bag of fertilizer, and a bag of compost were missing from the shed. She called the woman to ask about it, she told police, and the woman became upset and denied taking anything. Police went to the woman's residence and advised her not to return to Oak Hill Lane.

East Hampton Village

A large box truck backed into five of his hedges, a Buell Lane man reported on the morning of Aug. 6, estimating that they would cost about $2,000 to replace. Police contacted the company that owns the truck, and both sides agreed to handle the matter in civil court.

Sag Harbor

After police received numerous reports of dolphins in Sag Harbor Cove on the morning of Aug. 4, the harbormaster increased patrols to caution boaters. Meanwhile, officers called the state marine rescue center, which said it had sent a "spotter" to the area two days earlier, who'd reported that the dolphins appeared to be acting normally. The  center called back in the afternoon, however, stating it had been informed of more dolphin sightings in the cove, and asking police to take videos of the pods so that research personnel could determine their health.

A "balding man, about 5-foot-6 and dressed in a blue shirt and brown shorts," walked up to the side door of her Main Street residence on the afternoon of Aug. 5, and left a five-day notice of overdue rent at the door, a caller told police. She was startled, she said, because she did not know the man, and because he had not gone up to her front door, and she requested that the incident be documented. Officers noted that the man appeared to be a process sever.

A report of a possible structure fire outside the Breakwater Yacht Club on Friday proved to be an "open burn," police said, close to beach grasses. Firefighters extinguished the flames, and a man at the scene told officers he'd put "a large wooden crate on the fire." The man was later banned from the property at the request of a club manager, who told police he did not recognize him and he did not have permission to be there.

Montauk

On the night of Aug. 3, outside a house on Old Montauk Highway, a man allegedly punched the rear window of a Toyota RAV 4 with his fist, causing it to shatter into pieces and resulting in about $450 worth of damage. Police found the man, a resident of Willimantic, Conn., about half an hour later, and charged him with misdemeanor criminal mischief. He was held overnight for a morning appearance in Justice Court and was released on his own recognizance. He will return to court at a later date.

Wainscott

A 15-year-old was standing a few feet away from a 2017 Ford Expedition on the early evening of Aug. 4 when a Daniel's Hole Road man allegedly shattered its rear passenger window, "repeatedly striking it with a rock," the car's owner told police. Officers arrested the man soon after, charging him with criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child, misdemeanors. He was released from Justice Court the next morning with a ticket to return at a future date.
