Children Were in the Truck

Thu, 08/14/2025 - 09:22

Jesus Omar Gonzalez Hernandez of Rocky Point, 39, was charged late on Sunday night with assault with a deadly weapon, a felony. According to East Hampton Village police, he had thrown a bottle of beer at another person’s face as they were seated in a pickup truck at the intersection of Montauk Highway and Georgica Road.

The alleged victim told officers they'd been arguing for a time before the accused man turned violent and threw the bottle, at which time  all the occupants of the truck, including three minors, jumped out of it. Police arrived in time to see Mr. Gonzalez Hernandez arguing with another passenger by the side of the road, but he ran off before they could intervene.

Officers were unable to locate him in the immediate area, but found him later, after pinging his cellphone and overhearing him talking, hiding in bushes near Wainscott Supply Corp. on Old Montauk Highway in Wainscott.

He was charged with three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor, in addition to the felony assault charge, and taken to village police headquarters for processing before being arraigned Monday morning before Town Justice Steven Tekulsky. The case will be back in Justice Court on Sept. 4.

Omar B. Fayyaz of Brooklyn, 38, faces two felony charges, criminal mischief in the third degree and burglary in the second degree, stemming from an incident on the night of July 30.

Town police say Mr. Fayyaz pushed open the kitchen window of an Amagansett house, damaging its latching mechanism, and damaged a bedroom window, causing approximately $800 of damage altogether. While inside the house he is said to have consumed ice cream, salami, Bacardi Rum, and Red Stripe Beer.

He was arrested just after midnight. In court the next morning, Justice Tekulsky ordered a pretrial supervised release. His next court date is Aug. 21.
