Amagansett

A drunken neighbor tossed a chicken wing off a deck and “almost struck one of his children” late Saturday night, a Montauk Highway renter told police, which led to a “brief argument” between the parties, though he said the neighbor and his partner later came over and “attempted” to apologize. The neighbor told officers it had been “an accident, a misunderstanding,” and agreed not to interact with the man next door for the duration of his rental.

East Hampton

The driver of a Ford pickup was seen on the night of July 22 running away from the truck and “into the woods” after colliding with a tree by the side of Middle Highway. Officers were on the scene shortly, and spotted the man after a brief foot chase on Three Mile Harbor Road. He allegedly demonstrated multiple indicators of intoxication and was arrested for driving in his condition, and taken to town police headquarters in Wainscott for processing. A towing service was called to remove the truck.

East Hampton Village

A Key West, Fla., woman flagged down an officer on David’s Lane late Saturday night to say she was searching for a friend who was staying with her on that lane for the weekend. They’d been out to dinner with a group, she told officers, when her friend, leaving her cellphone and wallet on the dinner table, got up to use the restroom and did not return. Police went to the address where they were staying and found the missing woman there.

Montauk

Police on patrol early Friday morning, found a man sleeping in the kitchen of Pizza Village, “on the counter under some shelving,” and called a manager of the restaurant, who confirmed that no one was supposed to be there. He did not want to press charges, he said, but asked that the intruder be warned not to return. The man reportedly told officers that he understood, and “would not be a problem.”

The day before, police responded to a complaint of a passenger “refusing to leave the train” at the railroad station and found a man in a wheelchair who told them his chair “could not climb the step up to the platform,” adding that he was “feeling ill” and requesting an ambulance. He was helped off the train and met by E.M.S., who drove him to the Stony Brook East Hampton Emergency Department.

A patron of Body Tech Fitness reported last Thursday afternoon that his iPhone had been stolen from the men’s bathroom. He’d gone to find a janitor, he said, to replace the empty toilet paper roll, and left his phone behind. It was gone when he returned a few minutes later. He’d tracked it using “Find My Phone,” he told police, which revealed it to be traveling west on Route 27. Officers advised him to activate “Lost Mode” and report the phone as lost to his cellphone carrier.

Sag Harbor

Police responded to an Oakland Avenue woman’s report of a sick raccoon on her property on the afternoon of July 22 to find the animal lying on the ground, “breathing but not moving.” They contacted wildlife rescue, which promised to “send someone out” but did not say when.

The next day, a resident of nearby Palmer Terrace reported a sick, injured raccoon in his driveway. Officers reportedly made several attempts to contact wildlife rescue and animal control, but both services eventually responded that they “would not come for a raccoon.” Several sick raccoons have been found in Nassau County in recent weeks to be suffering from rabies, and people have been warned not to touch them.

A woman who had not visited her vacant Hillside Drive West property in two years went there last Thursday and discovered a wooden structure, “possibly a kids’ fort,” on the edge of the land. She is having it removed, she told police, and plans to place “no trespassing” signs around the property. She asked that her report be documented.

Someone dumped a pot of chicken soup over a Madison Street woman’s fence and into her backyard sometime Saturday, she told police that evening, expressing concern that her small dog could have choked on the bones. A person interviewed by officers stated that he was not aware of the incident, but that “it would not happen again.”
