Amagansett

Reports of several items on the town police blotter, some from as early as January, have been unavoidably delayed recently, including the following. On Jan. 4, employees at the clothing store Henry Lehr in Amagansett Square reported the theft of a shirt, valued at $279. A woman took the shirt off the rack, they said, walked into the changing room, put it in her bag, and, after being confronted by an employee, fled the store. An employee of a nearby store told police the woman had gone in there as well but did not buy or steal anything.

East Hampton

An Accabonac Road woman called police on Feb. 26 to say she’d received a phone call that morning from a woman claiming to represent Medicare. Medicare was sending out new cards, the woman said, and asked for her name, date of birth, and current Medicare number, all of which she told her. Later, she realized it was probably a scam. Police advised her to contact Medicare and tell them as well.

Montauk

On East Lake Drive last Thursday afternoon, at the intersection with Route 27, police on patrol noticed a man standing outside his car and urinating “on the public side of the road.” He was ticketed for the violation of the town code.

Sag Harbor

Warning that it could be a false alarm, a police dispatcher alerted officers on the evening of Feb. 25 that a caller had reported “a man with a possible bomb attached to his chest” on Main Street. Police found no such man nor any witnesses to the person described, and the caller could not be reached or found. The incident was recorded as an attempted “swatting.”

A Madison Street woman reported hearing a gunshot from her backyard on the night of Feb. 26. Officers checked both the yard and Oakland Cemetery, but found nothing.

A fight broke out on Main Street last Thursday night after an argument among three men leaving a restaurant. Two of them hit the third one in the face, he told police, and he hit back. The two were gone when police arrived, and the third man was said to be “drunk and uncooperative.” He refused medical attention and insisted upon walking himself home.

On Sunday morning a Hampton Street man discovered an arrow lodged in his front yard and called police, who canvassed the area searching for nearby archery targets. None were found.

Springs

Police were patrolling Babe’s Lane on Feb. 25 when they came upon a man harvesting oysters in Three Mile Harbor. The man’s permits were up to date, but five of the 12 oysters in his possession were allegedly undersize. Asked if he’d measured them, the man answered, “more or less.” He was cited for the violation of town code.

A Three Mile Harbor-Hog Creek Road woman told police on Feb. 26 that she’d been defrauded of $1,900 the day before. While attempting to pay her car insurance over the phone, she said, she asked to talk with a Spanish-speaking employee. She was told to expect a text in Spanish, she said. When it came, it requested that she use Zelle to send the money. She did, but realized there was an issue when she was asked to send more money. She reported this to her bank, and was advised to report it to police as well.

Wainscott

Another delayed report, this time from Jan. 7, involved a call from 393 Montauk Highway reporting the theft of $25,404 in pool equipment. The caller said she was making the call on behalf of a friend, the property owner, and both women stated that the theft had taken place sometime between Christmas Day and Jan. 5. The homeowner was asked to send in an itemized list of all missing equipment, and said she would do so

Van Rolls Over on Pantigo
