Injured in Road Accidents

Wed, 02/12/2025 - 21:53

An East Hampton driver was taken to the hospital on the morning of Feb. 3 after his car was rear-ended by a 2014 van.

Benjamin Lehmann, 33, driving a 2012 Nissan sedan, was stopped at a red light on North Main Street when Andrew Crozier of Southampton, 64, hit the back of the stopped car. Mr. Crozier later told East Hampton Town police that he did not see Mr. Lehmann’s car in front of him.

Mr. Lehmann, who was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time, was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital in an ambulance after telling police he felt back pain. Police say they later arrested Mr. Crozier at his job and charged him with leaving the scene of an accident causing injury.

Also last week, two people were injured in separate incidents of cars sliding off the road. Matthew Lewis of Amagansett, 44, sustained a head injury on the morning of Feb. 3, after his 2005 Ford sedan hit a patch of ice on Skimhampton Road, causing him to lose control. The car slid off the road, and struck a tree, sustaining damage to its passenger side and undercarriage. Mr. Lewis was taken to the hospital by Amagansett ambulance; Rapid Recovery towed the car from the scene.

On Sunday morning, Christine Sullivan, 72, of East Hampton, also sustained a head injury while driving. Ms. Sullivan was driving on Hand’s Creek Road in a 2019 Subaru when the S.U.V. hit ice and slid off the road, striking several trees and causing damage to the driver’s side and front end. She too was taken by ambulance to the hospital; the car was towed away by George Miller.

Emergency Dispatch Cost Analysis Debated

With two months to go until the East Hampton Town Police Department takes over the lion’s share of emergency dispatching responsibilities from East Hampton Village, questions linger about the cost of the transition and how the town department will handle the new workload.
