A homeless 22-year-old was arrested last week in Montauk, accused of stealing a package of wipes from the Montauk I.G.A. after having been being notified the week before that he was no longer allowed on the premises.
According to the complaint, Kennedy Alexander Santiago entered the store on the evening of Nov. 2 “with the intent of taking property” and left with a package of Cottonelle flushable wipes valued at $5.79. He had been accused of trespass the week before, and had signed a formal notice to that effect.
East Hampton Town police arrested him on the afternoon of Nov. 19, charging him this time with third-degree burglary, a felony, for illegally entering the store with intent to commit a crime. He was additionally charged with petty larceny, a misdemeanor, for removing the “property” without paying.
Town Justice Steven Tekulsky, who arraigned Mr. Santiago last Thursday morning, ordered a pre-trial supervised release. His next court appearance is scheduled for Dec. 18.
