Search for ‘Vulnerable’ Springs Woman Ends

Update, Oct. 23, 1 p.m.: East Hampton Town police, who had been seeking the public's help, have called off a search for Karen McCaffrey, 61, of Springs, who had gone missing from her family's house on Manor Lane Tuesday evening. She had been reported missing on Wednesday. 

"The missing person has been found," police said in a release. "No further assistance from the public is required."

This story will be updated as more information becomes available. 

Originally, Oct. 23, 8:30 a.m.: East Hampton Town police have asked for the public's help in locating a missing 61-year-old woman, last seen at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday at her family's home on Manor Lane in Springs. 

Karen McCaffrey is 5-foot-5, 185 pounds, and has gray hair and green eyes. She was last seen wearing an orange Clemson University sweatshirt with a navy long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. Police described her as "vulnerable," and said she has Alzheimer's disease.

She was reported missing by family members on Wednesday.

Anyone who sees her is encouraged to call town police at 631-537-7575. All calls will be kept confidential.

A Barry Lane, Springs, man told police that someone claiming to be from Amazon had called him in regard to a $996 charge on his account for an iPhone 16. When he said he didn’t have an Amazon account, he was transferred to someone who identified himself as a Social Security employee, accused him of money laundering, and told him to expect a call from Nassau County police.
