Struck in the Head With a Guitar

Thu, 09/21/2023 - 10:16

A scuffle at Innersleeve Records in Amagansett on the afternoon of Sept. 10 left one man with “substantial pain, swelling, and bleeding” and landed another in court facing three criminal charges.

According to East Hampton Town police, Kennedy Mooers of Covina, Calif., 27, entered the store and was told by the owner that he was not permitted to be there, based on a previous incident. The official arrest reports indicate that the defendant used a guitar to strike someone there in the head and face, causing cuts and bruising to the person’s left hand, nose, and forehead. Mr. Mooers reportedly took electric guitar strings without paying for them when he left.

The record shop called police, who arrested Mr. Mooers at 4:44 p.m. that day on charges of second-degree assault, a felony, as well as third-degree criminal trespass and petty larceny, misdemeanors.

He was arraigned the next morning in East Hampton Justice Court, where Justice Steven Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance. He was to have appeared in court again Wednesday morning, with representation from Legal Aid.
