East Hampton Village
Police kicked a Hampton Bays man off Main Beach on the afternoon of July 26, saying he was drunk. The man was told that “it isn’t safe to be near the ocean while consuming alcohol,” and an officer gave him a lift to the train station.
A 59-year-old resident of Georgica Road called police shortly before midnight Saturday to say a stranger was trying to enter his house. An officer determined that the intruder was supposed to be at the house next door.
Montauk
On the morning of July 26, police picked up a small bag of a powdery white substance, thought to be cocaine, on the ground in front of a real estate office on Carl Fisher Plaza.
Anthony Sosinski’s car very nearly got towed Friday afternoon while he was clamming in Lake Montauk. He’d parked it, with permission, on private property on Old West Lake Drive, but Fallon Bloecker, a real estate agent, reported it to police as a “suspicious vehicle.” Told whose car it was, she called back to say that all was well.
A New York City couple staying at the Montauk Yacht Club reported a $14,000 Rolex Perpetual watch missing from their room last Thursday afternoon. Detectives are investigating the incident, which is listed as a case of grand larceny.
Later that day, a witness told police he saw a “white male with a red beard,” driving a commercial pickup truck, strike a railroad gate on Napeague Meadow Road and drive away. M.T.A. police were called in to address the situation.
Police received two calls about an “unruly group” of youths on electric bicycles pulling ring-and-run stunts on Surfside Place last Thursday night. Officers canvassed the area but did not find them.
Caroline Lobuglio of Gannet Drive, whose dog, Roger, has been missing for some time, called police on July 24 after receiving a series of text messages from someone who claimed he’d found the dog, demanding she pay a reward via Venmo or Zelle. The person refused to provide photos of the dog and threatened that it “would be sold to the next highest bidder” if she didn’t comply.
Napeague
Of all people to be driving behind a cargo truck with an unsecured load, it had to be a cop. On Napeague on the afternoon of July 25, a loose rock from the truck chipped the windshield of a marked police S.U.V. in the eastbound lane of Route 27 near Dunes Lane. The truck driver was ticketed for having loose cargo.
Lifeguards responded to what appeared to be two swimmers in distress a mile out from beach access marker number 14A on July 26 at around 4:30 p.m. A search on Jet Skis revealed that there were no struggling swimmers in the water — it was a 14-foot-long log.
Springs
An 85-year-old boater called for help on July 25 around 3 p.m., saying he was feeling dizzy and lightheaded, after his 26-foot Sea Ray became disabled in Gardiner’s Bay. Harbor Marina towed the vessel into Three Mile Harbor; by the time it was safely docked he felt better and declined medical attention.
Wainscott
A caller told police he “heard a single gunshot” in the vicinity of Georgica Woods Lane last Thursday evening. Police found nothing suspicious.
