Sergeant Schmitt Retires from East Hampton Police Department

Thu, 01/07/2021 - 06:28

The East Hampton Town Police Department congratulated Sgt. Peter Schmitt last week on his retirement after more than 24 years on the force.

Serving the community since 1996, Sergeant Schmitt was a member of the dive team, the bicycle unit, and the East End Drug Task Force. He was promoted to patrol sergeant in 2007, and was honored with the Department Recognition Award.

Sergeant Schmitt was also a big part of the law enforcement torch run, Chief Michael Sarlo noted.

"Pete was extremely well liked by his peers, and was very involved in the fraternal side of the job, encouraging the officers to develop friendships outside of work; he always promoted camaraderie and the importance of being part of the community as well. We all wish him the best in his retirement and thank him for his service," Chief Sarlo said.
