Problem Parking on a Public Street

Thu, 06/04/2020 - 07:51

Sag Harbor Village police had no trouble spotting Nicole Fader’s large camper van early on the morning of May 25 since it was parked illegally on Long Island Avenue. The Long Beach resident was cited for parking on a public street, a violation, and is to appear in village court on Friday, June 12, before Justice Lisa R. Rana.

While on patrol last Thursday morning, police clocked a gray Chevrolet northbound on Main Street at 36 miles per hour in a 20-m.p.h. zone. They stopped Bryan Sazo-Nu, 28, of Riverhead at the Joel’s Lane intersection, and reported that his license had been suspended twice, including, in 2013, for driving while ability impaired by alcohol. Charged with aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, as well as for speeding, he too has a date with Justice Rana on June 12.

Justice Rana will also see Jose E. Hernandez-Lopez, 29, of Hampton Bays on that date. On Sunday night, Sag Harbor police said, his white Nissan Infiniti was spotted going 40 miles per hour on Main Street, and was pulled over at a traffic light. Police found that his license had been suspended last year for failure to pay a vehicle-related fine, and he too was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation.

The fourth person to come before Justice Rana on Friday, June 12, will be Robin Schiavoni, 54, of Sag Harbor, who was driving through the Long Island Avenue-Main Street intersection on Sunday when her black Toyota sideswiped a bicyclist. Police reported that her driving privileges had been suspended in 2013 for failure to answer a summons, and charged her with aggravated unlicensed operation. The cyclist, Marc Bean of New York City, refused medical attention, and the ambulance at the scene gave him the all- clear.

Highway Accident

On her way to the East Hampton Tennis Club, on Montauk Highway in East Hampton Village, Marilyn Stevenson of Southampton slowed down to make a left turn. A Toyota Camry driven by Juliana Garcia Morales of Hampton Bays, which East Hampton Village police said had been tailgating, rear-ended her Toyota sport-utility vehicle.

Police reported that Ms. Stevenson had properly signaled the turn.

Both drivers experienced pain, Ms. Garcia Morales in the chest and Ms. Stevenson in the head. Ms. Garcia Morales was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital for treatment.

Driver and Passenger Booked

A driver and his passenger were both arrested by Sag Harbor Village police in the early morning hours on Sunday, one charged with drunken driving and the other with resisting arrest.
