Thu, 02/13/2020 - 08:04

A 40-year-old man who stole a teenager’s bicycle in Sag Harbor Village on Feb. 3 was arrested later that day after he was seen riding it in Noyac.

Faber S. Kelly of Port Henry, N.Y., was charged with felony grand larceny after a family member had spotted the distinctive bike, a Specialized Fuse mountain bike valued at $1,500, and called Southampton Town police. Village police had not received a report that the bike was missing at the time. It was taken from  in front of the 7-Eleven on Long Island Avenue.     Town police arrested Mr. Kelly and charged him additionally with third-degree criminal mischief, relating to a domestic incident that occurred on Feb. 2. Lt. Susan Ralph said he was also charged with unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation.

Village police picked up Mr. Kelly at Southampton Town Justice Court on Feb. 4 and officially charged him with fourth-degree grand larceny. He was released with an appearance ticket to report to Sag Harbor Justice Court tomorrow.

They Know When You've Been Bad or Good

East Hampton Village is now home to 14 Flock license plate reader surveillance cameras, which amounts to one for every 108 full-time residents, if you go by the 2020 census data. They're heralded by local police for aiding in enforcement and investigations, but they use a technology that has proven controversial nationally with those concerned about civil liberties.
