Amagansett

A member of the Ocean Estates Property Owners Association told police on April 16 that at some point during the month of March five sign posts, each with a speed limit and a private road sign, were stolen from their positions on Shipwreck Drive. Cynthia Crain valued the missing posts and signs at $2,250.

East Hampton

A bicycle thief targeted an Accabonac Road house last week. Anthony Pollikoff told police last Thursday that someone had entered his yard and removed a light blue Giant mountain bike worth $600 from a rack.

East Hampton Village

A caller reported an injured seal on the sand between Georgica and Main Beach last week. An officer took photographs and sent them to the Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research. It was thought that the seal was not in need of medical help, but the foundation agreed to send someone if another report came in.

A car parked all day Friday on Main Street in front of the former Robert David Lion Gardiner house had its rear window smashed. The owner reported nothing stolen.

A couple who got into a heated dispute while driving back home to Shirley Friday night stopped in front of police headquarters on Cedar Street. The man told police he would rather take the train home, and police gave him a ride to Railroad Avenue. The  woman resumed her long drive.

Northwest Woods

A Timberline Road woman called police April 26 after finding multiple scratches on her front door. Stacey Greenfield said it would cost about $200 to repair the door. It appeared that someone had tried to enter the house, unsuccessfully.

Sag Harbor

Police were called to a construction site on Church Street Friday afternoon, where they were told that workers from the nearby Bulova condominium project were coming over to use the Porta-Potties. Police visited the Bulova site and warned contractors to make sure their employees used their own facilities.

Springs

A Harbor View Drive family called police April 26, concerned about a local resident who, they said, continually pulls up in front of their house, shouts obscenities, then does “burn outs” with his tires. It is the third time the Cao family has called police. Apparently the man has used two different vehicles, and the license plate numbers were given to police. No arrests have been made.

Stephen Talmage told police that the Caterpillar Payloader he had left unattended for an hour around lunchtime on April 25 at the Talmage industrial site had its side window smashed. He estimated it would cost $300 to repair.

An iPad Mini Air, valued at $600, was stolen from a Fort Pond Boulevard residence on April 16. Cindy Alvarado reported that an acquaintance had stopped by that morning and had access to the iPad. She did not want to press charges provided it was returned. The next day she said that the person she believes took the iPad was trying to sell it. The serial number for the missing tablet is DMPNC56PG5W, the police reported.

Montauk

An officer on patrol in downtown Montauk was flagged down by a New Jersey woman on April 27, who said she had been the victim of road rage and was forced to the side of the road on Main Street. The other driver then headed east. Police searched for the vehicle without success.

Village's Newest Cop Is 'One of Our Own'

A smattering of news involving the village's Police and Emergency Services Departments came out of an East Hampton Village Board meeting that was otherwise focused on avoiding the need for residents to call the police for noise complaints in the historic district.

On Pantigo Road near Bostwick’s, a 38-year-old man who appeared to be intoxicated was questioned by police on the afternoon of April 7. He said he wasn’t causing trouble, just canvassing businesses looking for work. Police drove him back to his house. Eight days before, the same man had been seen opening a storage shed and walk-in cooler behind Rowdy Hall in Amagansett, and he was later accused of taking 20 containers of beer and four containers of iced tea. According to the official report, petty larceny charges may be pending.
