Oct. 6, 1950 - Feb. 21, 2025

Aida Ester Chitarroni, a staff member at Gurney’s Inn and Resort in Montauk for many years who was known as Mimi to family and friends, died on Friday in Stamford, Conn., after being ill with cancer for 14 months. The Olive Street, Springs, resident was 74.

Ms. Chitarroni worked at Gurney’s Inn from 1978 until last year. During her off hours, spending time with family came first. She enjoyed traveling, going to the beach to swim, and watching “Family Feud.” Then there was making empanadas to share with family and friends in the style of her birthplace, Argentina.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1950, in Buenos Aires to Hector and Maria Della Corte. She attended Catholic University of Argentina.

She married Juan Carlos Chitarroni on Feb. 2, 1975, in Buenos Aires. He died in 2018.

Ms. Chitarroni is survived by a sister, Rosa Maria Della Corte of Buenos Aires, a daughter, Florencia Diraffaele of Norwalk, Conn., and two grandchildren, Olivia Diraffaele and Alex Diraffaele of Connecticut.

A memorial was held in her home on Tuesday. Ms. Chitarroni’s daughter suggested that memorial donations be made to the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, 124 Daniel’s Hole Road, East Hampton 11937, from which the family had adopted many dogs, she said.

Slow Start at New Gosman’s

In some ways, Gosman’s Dock, one of Montauk’s few remaining family-owned and operated businesses until its October 2024 sale, closely resembles the complex of restaurants and shops long revered by locals and visitors alike. In other ways, though, it is markedly different under its new ownership.
