Show and Tell: An Inside Look at Competitive Riding

It's time for the Hampton Classic once again, where Ava Lynch, an up-and-coming teen equestrian from Wainscott, will saddle up with passion in her heart and ribbons in her sights. She gave EAST magazine a close-up look into the world of competitive riding. There’s a myth, Ava says, that competitive riding “is easy, that anyone can do it, or that it isn’t a sport. That’s just not true.”

Hampton Classic Begins on Sunday

The weeklong Hampton Classic, an International Federation of Equestrian Sports’ five-star-rated show, with more than 200 classes in six rings on showgrounds off Snake Hollow Road in Bridgehampton, is to begin at 8 a.m. Sunday with leadline classes for children 2 through 7 in the Grand Prix ring that are to be judged by Joe Fargis, a three-time Olympic medalist.
