A $600,000 grant from the New York State Regional Economic Development Councils “to plan for the sustainable future” of Montauk’s downtown will help East Hampton Town develop strategies for dealing with the nuts and bolts of climate adaptation.
If the Anchor Society of East Hampton has its way, the current reality of wintertime East Hampton Village, plagued by 55 seasonally closed storefronts, will change by next year as its “winter shops” program gains traction. The idea is “to help fill empty storefronts in the off-season with affordable retail, much-needed services, and other popular pop-ups residents desire.”
East Hampton School District officials on Tuesday unveiled a plan to put up a bond referendum in 2025 for significant repairs and upgrades to its facilities. A priority, so far, is a top-to-bottom overhaul of the high school auditorium.
