Candidates for office in the upcoming East Hampton Village elections will no longer be able to circulate nominating petitions, under an executive order issued on Monday by Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo.     

An East End institution, Organizacion Latino Americana, is digging deep for the needs of children and families currently in crisis, with the help of volunteers and donors.     

Rallies, pressing the flesh, hitting the campaign trail — these time-honored electoral traditions have been put aside, at least for now, as the Covid-19 pandemic upends the country. Campaigns have gone virtual in New York’s First Congressional District, where several candidates are vying for the Democratic Party’s nomination to challenge the incumbent, Representative Lee Zeldin.     

With elected officials likening the fight against Covid-19 to a “war,” you might also compare Nancy Nano to Rosie the Riveter, or Urban Reininger to Uncle Sam, or think of local libraries as home-grown victory gardens.   

Another large segment of the South Fork’s work force was idled this week after Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo on Friday halted all nonessential construction during the Covid-19 pandemic.     

Suffolk County's Covid-19 case rate per 1,000 inhabitants recorded a sharp rise in figures released on Tuesday. The five East End towns continued to lag the county as a whole in confirmed coronavirus cases per thousand.

Sixteen additional Suffolk County residents have died from Covid-19, County Executive Steve Bellone said on Wednesday, bringing the total to 69.

The food supply is abundant, but so is the need at East Hampton Town's food pantries, which operating on overdrive to serve more residents amid the shutdown of commercial activity brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.

As confirmed cases of Covid-19 climbed to 5,791 in Suffolk County, a second drive-through testing site has opened in Riverhead. The facility, operated by ProHealth, a New York-based medical provider, is the first on the East End.

As of Sunday, cases in New York State were doubling every six days, a rate of increase slightly lower than earlier this week. The state had over 59,000 cases, with Suffolk County reporting 5,023 cases and 40 virus-related deaths.

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone on Saturday said seven more people in the county have died of COVID-19, bringing the death toll to 37. There are now 4,138 confirmed virus cases in the county, up by 753 from Friday. East Hampton's patient count remained the same at 20, but cases in Southampton rose from 65 to 72 in one day. Mr. Bellone said 16 percent of those who are hospitalized -- about 66 people out of 409 -- are age 65 or older.
