The number of people receiving hospital care for Covid-19 in Suffolk County fell to 90 on Sunday, marking the first period since March 22 that there have been fewer than 100 hospitalizations, Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone said at an afternoon press briefing.

“Today, on Father’s Day, on the first full day of summer, it truly is a different season,” he said. “We have come an incredibly long way.”

The number of patients in intensive care fell by 10, to 21, and 16 were discharged. There was one death, which brought the total number of fatalities to 1,964. The number of I.C.U. cases edged back upward by the end of the day on Sunday, however, to 27.

The daily count of positive cases, which had been mostly registering in the 30s and 40s over the past two weeks, had a more dramatic uptick, adding 64 in Saturday's report. There were 44 new cases confirmed on Friday.

Mr. Bellone said the increase “is not a big deal in any way” and confirmed that the county is still on track to enter phase three of reopening on Wednesday. Phase three will allow personal care facilities such as spas and nail salons to reopen, and restaurants to offer indoor dining, but all must operate at only 50 percent capacity.
