Creative Connectedness With Incarcerated Women

Tue, 04/19/2022 - 11:13

A new effort by the Neo-Political Cowgirls, in partnership with the New Hour for Women and Children, is seeking creative-minded women to help women who are incarcerated.

Participants are asked to make a tax-deductible donation of $25 to the Neo-Political Cowgirls to receive a "creative prompt package," which will guide them in producing something artistic to send to an incarcerated woman in Eastern Suffolk County. It can be an "encouragement-filled letter with poetry, art, and other snippets of creative hope, wishes, and connectedness," said Kate Mueth, the founder of the Cowgirls, in an announcement.

Donations will support the Chapel and Jail Playwright Project, a year-long series of creative workshops for incarcerated women to tell their stories.

"This is your gift to a woman in our community who is currently incarcerated and who will benefit from knowing she is being thought of," Ms. Mueth said.

Participants can get the process started online at npcowgirls.org/donate. More information can be had by sending an email to [email protected].
